Presented by Richard Hadden, CSP
Originally Recorded on May 14, 2019
Description: Coaching is one of the most anxiety-inducing, and therefore, avoided of all leadership responsibilities. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
With a simple, easy-to-follow coaching model, you’ll learn how to effectively coach employees in a variety of applications, including:
- Performance improvement
- Performance management
- Motivation
- Engagement
- Awareness building
- Career development
- Team effectiveness
- Problem solving and brainstorming
The cornerstone of this practice-based course, is a proven model for coaching which participants will learn, and then practice with each other, receiving feedback as they learn. Using realistic examples and case studies, the coaching model will come to life, and learners will be able to apply the model back at work, in their own situations.
We’ll define coaching as an interactive communication process between members of the organization (leaders to team members, peers to peers, and team members to leaders) aimed at exerting a positive influence on the motivation, performance, awareness, and development of another person. Coaching is an ongoing process of building a partnership for continuous improvement.
We’ll also talk about what coaching is not, to help leaders understand when it would be more effective to use other leadership and management tools at their disposal.
Through group discussion, we’ll explore when participants currently coach, and what opportunities there are to expand their coaching practices. We’ll talk about various ways of providing feedback, from a very involving approach to one that, when the situation calls for it, is more direct.
Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of how to build ownership and a sense of accountability and responsibility among those they coach.
Managers report that they “hate coaching”, because they’re unsure how to do it effectively, some tend to avoid conflict, and they are afraid of damaging the relationship with their team members. This course helps leaders develop the skills that will take them from hating coaching to loving it!
